Professional Development in Project Share: New Courses for Summer 2012

A+RISE Online Tutorial

The A+RISE Online Tutorial is designed to introduce the A+RISE Standards2Strategy system and provide teachers with navigation tips on strategy selection for instructional support. The course includes information on the features of the A+RISE system, English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs), the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS), and alternative classroom assessments for English language learners. CPE credit is 0; this course serves as an online resource only.

Algebra I End-of-Course Success Facilitated

This facilitated course provides information and activities designed to improve overall math instruction and to support student success on the STAAR Algebra I EOC assessment.  Participants will examine concepts in the Algebra I TEKS and learn strategies through student-centered lessons. The course also makes connections to the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), and the Response to Intervention (RtI) model. CPE credit is 12.

HS ELA Electives: Independent Study in English

This course is designed to be an educator resource for the English Language Arts and Reading elective, Independent Study in English. The course provides an elective description; a link to the Texas Administrative Code; and alignment to the ELAR Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the College and Career Readiness Standards, and the English Language Proficiency Standards. Participants have the opportunity to analyze five classroom activities that have been aligned to the three sets of standards. CPE credit is 1.

HS ELA Electives: Advanced Journalism: Yearbook/Newspaper/Literary Magazine

This course is designed to be an educator resource for the English Language Arts and Reading electives, Advanced Journalism: Yearbook I, II, and III/Newspaper I, II, and III/Literary Magazine. The course provides an elective description; a link to the Texas Administrative Code; and alignment to the ELAR Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the College and Career Readiness Standards, and the English Language Proficiency Standards. Participants have the opportunity to analyze five classroom activities that have been aligned to the three sets of standards. CPE credit is 1.

MSTAR Academy II

The MSTAR Academy II training emphasizes research-based Tier II strategies from the IES Practice Guide and explores how to identify and meet the needs of students needing Tier II support in mathematics. Participants will learn how to interpret results of the MSTAR Universal Screener, use the results and other data to make instructional decisions, and provide strategies for implementing evidence-based interventions for students receiving Tier II mathematics support. CPE credit is 12.
