English language learners (ELLs) benefit from content area instruction that is aligned to their language proficiency level. A variety of instructional strategies that assist English language learners in both language development and content acquisition are vital to implement to promote academic success. The Implementing the ELPS (English Language Proficiency Standards) in English Language Arts and Reading course will assist in understanding how to apply the ELPS cross-curricular student expectations and linguistic accommodations in a content area lesson. The integration of the ELPS in lesson planning and instructional practices to support ELL success will be addressed.
